He said he is particularly excited about the interactive feature that they have this year, which starts when people download a free app on their smart phones: “Put in their names, we will give them a Yeti name, so we are going to Yeti-ize their name, and then they can choose one of the snow flakes, and literally swipe across their phones and throw it from their phones right into the windows and they are actually be part of the windows too.”

Animation Tests

We started with a simple looping flow from right to left guiding the shoppers towards the front doors of Saks. Layering in a foreground, middleground and background, gave us opportunity to play with the idea of a traditional window diorama. Here we planted trees, sign posts, built igloos, and crafted a baseline for our Yeti world. Initially we imagined a vast landscape that connected Siberia to New York City. The viewer would be taken from a thriving Yeti village, across forests, the frozen tundras, the arctic ocean, Ellis Island, and end up at the roof top of Saks. With much simplification, we decided to cycle through ‘A Day in the Life in Yeti Village’ and the idea transformed into a porthole. The physical installation itself mimicked an igloo’s window. Below you can see a few of the scenarios and activities that brought the village to life.
